How It Works

 The DVNext Rheometer operates as a precise torque meter, rotating at specific speeds. A calibrated beryllium-copper spring connects the drive mechanism to the rotating cone, measuring the resistance caused by the fluid sample between the cone and the stationary plate. This resistance generates torque proportional to the fluid’s shear stress, which can be converted directly into viscosity (mPa·s) using pre-calculated charts or calculated from the cone's geometric constants and rotational parameters.

 

Setting up the cone and plate is simple, requiring no external tools or gauges. The stationary plate doubles as the base of a sample cup, which accommodates 0.5 mL to 2.0 mL of fluid. The cup is jacketed for temperature control and connects to a circulating bath. The system offers an accuracy of ¹1.0% of the full-scale range and reproducibility within ¹0.2%. It operates efficiently across a temperature range of 0°C to 100°C.

 

Customizable Options

 The instrument comes with one calibrated cone spindle designed for the included sample cup. Additional spindles are available for purchase and can be calibrated for seamless integration.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION


DVNext Cone/Plate Rheometer operates by measuring the torque required to rotate a cone spindle immersed in a small sample volume of fluid. The resistance to the cone's rotation, caused by the fluid, is directly proportional to the shear stress. This torque is then used to calculate the fluid's absolute viscosity in centipoise (mPa·s). The precise relative position between the cone and plate is maintained through a simple mechanical setup without the need for external gauges.
